What Is an AI Visibility Score?

Your AI Visibility Score is a quantitative measure of how frequently and favorably AI models mention your brand when responding to relevant queries. It answers a simple but critical question: When people ask AI about your industry, does your brand come up?

How the Score Is Calculated

Rankhelper's AI Presence Score evaluates your brand across multiple dimensions:

1. Query Coverage

We test your brand against industry-specific queries across six major AI models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Grok). The more queries where your brand appears, the higher your coverage score.

2. Model Breadth

Being mentioned by one AI model is good. Being mentioned by all six is significantly better. Model breadth measures how consistently your brand appears across different AI platforms.

3. Mention Quality

Not all mentions are equal. We evaluate whether your brand is:

  • Recommended — Actively suggested as a solution
  • Listed — Included in a list of options
  • Referenced — Mentioned as context or background
  • Absent — Not mentioned at all

4. Sentiment Analysis

When AI models mention your brand, is the context positive, neutral, or negative? Sentiment affects whether a mention helps or hurts your reputation.

Why AI Visibility Matters

The Discovery Shift

A growing percentage of product research and decision-making happens through AI assistants. If your brand isn't visible in these conversations, you're missing a significant and growing discovery channel.

Competitive Intelligence

Your AI Visibility Score also reveals which competitors are winning in AI-powered discovery. Understanding the competitive landscape helps you prioritize your optimization efforts.

Content Strategy Validation

Your score provides direct feedback on whether your content strategy is working. If you publish new content and your score improves, you know you're on the right track.

How to Improve Your Score

Quick Wins (1-2 Weeks)

  • Add structured data (schema markup) to your key pages
  • Ensure your About page clearly describes what your company does
  • Update outdated content with current information

Medium-Term (1-3 Months)

  • Publish authoritative content that answers common industry questions
  • Build citations from industry publications and directories
  • Create comprehensive resource pages on your core topics

Long-Term (3-6 Months)

  • Establish thought leadership through original research
  • Build a content ecosystem that covers your topic area comprehensively
  • Earn mentions in training data sources (Wikipedia, major publications)

Tracking Progress

Monitor your AI Visibility Score monthly to track trends. Look for:

  • Overall score trajectory (improving, stable, declining)
  • Category-specific performance (which query types you win)
  • Competitor movement (who's gaining or losing ground)
  • Model-specific patterns (which AI platforms favor your content)
